If there is one thing I’m a sucker for, it’s Cheapie McCheap makeup from BSS (beauty supply store, if you are unaware).
Now that I’m in the DC metro, there’s no need for me to grudgingly patronize beauty supply stores since “ethnic” hair care products are readily available to in a nice full aisle at Target. I do still get the urge to check out the weaves, wigs and other “ethnic hair accessories.” Which, on most occasions, includes cheap, chalky eyeshadows that are $1.99 or less. This shopping trip was one of those days.
Anyway, enough talking. Let’s get to the goodies. Check my haul after the jump. Oh, and I only spent $17!
Y’all know that NYX Lip Pencil in Plush Red is my go-to glam color, even moreso now that I’ve decided it’s a suitable dupe for RiRi Woo. Even before that discovery, this pencil was worn down to a nub! I was literally dragging that mess all over my lips like your white-haired Aunt Iris. And, was happy about it, too. I also picked up an NYX eye pencil in Yellow on whim. It’ll be a nice brown girl, WOC appropriate tone for the water line instead of white. I also think it’ll make a precise brow highlight as well. (Before you gasp, it’s to clean up under the brow, then go over it with the brow highlight or shadow base. Woosah, Grasshopper, I got this.)
Very excited to stumble upon this camo, olive khaki hued polish. I haven’t had a color like this since high school, when Hard Candy was $12 and Dineh Mohajer was a too-cool-for-old-white-guys business magazine cover girl. Do I still have that issue? You bet my magazine-obessed behind I do. (Clearly, you underestimate my crazy.)
Gotta have white nail polish for the summer. Much, much better than using White Out, a la your junior high school clique of girls.
This nail polish from NYX caught my eye because it will make a nice brown girl, WOC friendly nude nail polish. Remember when nude/skin tone nails were the “it” color a couple of summers ago? Oh, you don’t remember? Well, I do and I never forgot. Which, is why I was excited to buy this.
I like Nicka K single eyeshadows, and at a $1.49, buying the lipstick was a no-brainer. I got the shades Ruby Red, Orange Tint and Pink Tint. Ruby red is a nice, bold cool toned blood red, which I like. Orange tint comes off a touch sherberty, but I think I can work with it. It’s one of those shades you have to plan to wear. My sister totally influenced me to buy another orange lipstick. She was on the hunt for a dupe for MAC Morange to try it out before committing to a MAC shade. I was also persuaded into fiend-ing for an orange shade, thus, me buying this. Last, Pink Tint is a fun color to wear. It shows as a blue-base pinky mauve, leaning into a cool fuschia. You have to layer it on a bit to get it opaque. It’s a good ‘starter’ color for working into wearing bold lipstick.
