Manic Panic + Ricky’s NYC

June 25, 2014 By ARMOURELLE

Ricky’s NYC unveiled the newest salon edition to their Broadway location. I happened to stumble upon this gem of an event celebrating the opening of  Tish & Snooky’s Manic Panic Color Asylum at Revolver Salon. I. Was. PUMPED. I’ve been a fan of Manic Panic since I was a teen. I remember the only way my mom was able to get my to do my geometry homework was to dangle the the reward of getting the shade Pillarbox Red by Manic Panic in front of me. Let me tell you my homework was done in less than an hour.

Back to the event, though. I was on my way to work on a freelance assignment at a coffee shop next door, when I saw the signs in the window and heard the music. Deadline looming in the background, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see what Tish and Snooky of Manic Panic and Ricky’s NYC had cooked up! So many beautiful heads wondurful colors. For some reason, I think faded hair color has more character–it’s been ‘lived in.’ You guys know I’m all for colorful hair (here, here, here and check my footwork in my Manic Panic wig from ’98 here). I was sad I could only breeze through and take a few pics, but take a look at the photos for proof of awesomeness.

BeautyCon NYC was Super Cute

May 27, 2014 By ARMOURELLE

So, I went to BeautyCon NYC yesterday. It was super cute and inspired me to get back on my blogging and YouTube game. I got to meet some of my favorite YouTubers (namely Carlibel, It’s My RayeRaye and Shameless Maya) who were super cute and full of awesomeness.

I love makeup and I love watching YouTube, so BeautyCon NYC was pretty fun for me. I was there for a few hours soaking up the digital-ness of it. I would love to see this become a full-fledged conference for women entering the digital space. Check the photos below!

Wash Day for Natural Hair is a WHOLE DAY? Really?

November 27, 2013 By ARMOURELLE

Whether you’re newly natural or have been rocking your puffy halo for a while, wash day should be easy.  And it shouldn’t be a chore. We should feel relieved that we can flip our ‘fros and twirl our twist outs. Natural hair should be fun, fluffy and fancy free. So what’s the point if you’re taking just as much time as going to the beauty shop to do your hair when you’re natural?

If you don’t know, the phrase “wash day” is the day, not to be confused with a day of rest, that is reserved for grooming. For some women who are natural, wash day is a dance of complicated steps involving multiple products and oils and conditioning caps in an effort to achieve the perfect balance or curl to the hair.  To that I say, wash DAY? A whole day? Really? I don’t have time for that. Actually, I won’t even entertain pretending like I’m making time for that.
