When I worked in retail, twice a year, we’d wake up early for an inventory shift. We’d count every item on every rack, table and shelf in the store. Extra people helped.
I should do the same. Take a personal inventory of sorts. Am I the same person I think I am? Do I have the knowledge I claim I do? Are the labels I choose to use correct? (Oh, God—do I need a Surgeon General’s Warning?) Or is there a gap between who you I am and who I envision myself to be? 💁🏾

You know the work you have to do. Creative work feels like, well—work. Inspiration doesn’t happen in an instant, and sometimes the Muse decides she doesn’t want to meet you half way. (Or, at all.) So what do you do? You show up, sharpen your pencil and you do the work anyway.

Remember this: Just because the miracle doesn’t look the way you think it should, or the message isn’t as melodic as you’d hoped doesn’t mean it wasn’t carefully addressed to you.
Yes, packaging has its purpose, but eventually gets thrown away.

(Case in point: follow up with that girl you laughed with during a hilarious drunken bathroom convo. She’ll teach you a lot, push you to do your real work, and she won’t mind when your hair takes over her entire face in a photo. Plus you two will be friends almost 10 years later.)
