Writers’ Haul: Some goodies I picked up.
So y’all hear me carrying on from time to time about calling myself a writer and such. In an effort to provide some proof of the jump-up-and-down joy that overcomes me in bookstores, art stores and in the pen and pencil aisle of office supply stores, I present to you goodies from a writing haul! YAY, notebooks!
Enjoy the photos:
I picked up this white, pocket-sized Moleskine with lined pages. I can’t believe I paid $13 for this notebook, but it officially makes me a hipster and that’s all that matters. I’ll be sure to whip it out in a group setting in order to take notes on something profoundly simplistic next time I’m enjoying an artisanal espresso beverage inside a Brooklyn coffee shop! (For which, I will have also probably paid $13.)

Mini Colored Pencils from Barnes & Noble.
I like the slim profile of these colored pencils–and the fact that they don’t need to be sharpened makes them great to throw in my backpack when I’m on the go. Hold that though, though. The CD case these pencils come encased in flies open, leaving pencils scattered in the bottom of said backpack. No good for travel. These stay on the desk. And, I don’t use them much. Not really jazzed that I bought these in my writing haul.
This Rhodia pocket-size note pad with graph paper will be perfect for a mini Bullet Journal. The only drawback to this particular version are the perforated pages which may not stand up to the wear and tear of being shuffled around in a purse or tote bag. If you are unaware of the Bullet Journal movement, please–PLEASE–go get your life. It’s okay. I’ll wait for you to come back.

Two-Ended markers from Barnes & Noble.
The pouch for these markers is what sold me on them. And, they were less than $10. They’re nothing special, but this shopping trip had me looking for items that seemed portable and gave me lots of options.

Generic $7 sketchbook from Barnes & Noble
I’m using this Cheapie McCheap sketch book as an art journal. The paper isn’t all that great, but it would withstand some craft paint and Mod Podge. (Sidenote: If you use Mod Podge in your art journal, separate the pages with wax paper or else your art is hidden forever!) After looking through an old one I had from 2009-2012, I realize that was a tough phase in my life and my chapter of that [agonizing] journey is over. It’s only fair I give this new chapter a new chance to illustrate herself. My new goal for this is NO WRITING ALLOWED. My art journal is a way for me to escape words for a little bit and use an alternate medium to communicate. I’m a terrible artist and my collages are craptastic, but it doesn’t matter–it’s fun!
I picked up this Quattro lined notepad because I liked the color. It matches my attempted decor which I claim has ‘pops of turquoise.’ I’m not afraid to admit to being shallow. #SorryNotSorry. It stays on the window sill near my bed because I plan to use it as a dream journal. I’m re-thinking this, however, as I’m diligently working through the Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron and am writing furiously in my morning pages. So there isn’t a need for a dream journal at this point for all of the travels and adventures that happen while I’m sleeping.
Well, that’s it for my writing haul. I hope you’re inspired to 1) clean your messy desk, and 2) start writing that ‘thing’ you said you would!
TILL WE MEET AGAIN, YOUNG THOTS!!
:D
