Jane is Back!

Our junior high bestie is back! I noticed this display in my local Ulta today and was filled with joyous nostalgia! Please tell me you remember Jane with her super tiny foundation samples and teen-friendly eyeshadow shades.

Every week after school, I’d go to Target and sit down infront of the aisle endcap, staring at the colorful products. I’d memorize what shades to buy when I was allowed to wear makeup. I’d also collect their on-trend pamphlets, that were almost like little tri-fold magazines. Those ultra cool pamphlets showed me how to apply makeup, how to be a good friend and most importantly, how to be good to myself.

I still remember their cute acronym MMM, short for Meet Me at the Mall. Which taught us how to master a chic, five-minute face for times when we absolutely had to get to the mall. You know, for clothes and cutie shopping.

Ah, welcome back, Jane. Pretty sure you’ll be just a cool as you were in the 90s. The new BFF for junior high and middle schoolers.

Drugstore Foundations: Cover Girl, Maybelline and L’Oreal

The three colors I wear + the color I *wish* I was. And, yes, I keep my eye brushes in an old Frappuccino bottle.

Yearly, I go on a quest for the ‘perfect’ foundation color. I have one of those odd, browny-olivey skin tones that is super brown, yet super golden and super hard to match. Sad day for this gal. I end up mixing foundations and they’re usually too orange or too red. It’s tough finding that nice olive-based brown. Dope Finds from the Beauty Supply Store

If there is one thing I’m a sucker for, it’s Cheapie McCheap makeup from BSS (beauty supply store, if you are unaware).

Now that I’m in the DC metro, there’s no need for me to grudgingly patronize beauty supply stores since “ethnic” hair care products are readily available to in a nice full aisle at Target. I do still get the urge to check out the weaves, wigs and other “ethnic hair accessories.” Which, on most occasions, includes cheap, chalky eyeshadows that are $1.99 or less. This shopping trip was one of those days.
