Kids, I needed a kinky curl intervention. Not Your Mother’s Smooth Moves Frizz Control Hair Cream was just the thing to get me motivated to style my hair again.
After following a super simple style regimen that consisted of conditioner only and the occasional handful of mousse, I needed a change. It wasn’t that I was trying to be overly simple, I was actually kind of being lazy. These days, my hair is usually in a bun or pulled back into a low pony. Since I’ve dyed my hair, I wanted my kinky waves (yes, I’m making up a new phrase here–just let me make ‘fetch’ happen, hmm-kay) to have some definition.
At first use, I didn’t think I’d like this product. I thought it wouldn’t provide any hold or frizz free-ness that its packaging claimed. The fact that it is lightweight, isn’t greasy and gives a firm hold without being hard or crunchy impressed me. Seriously. I’ve been using it almost every styling session since giving it a ‘real’ try. The product has a gel-like consistency and isn’t sticky. Really, the best thing about this product is the fact that it doesn’t create a coating on your hair that eventually flakes off like uncontrolled dandruff snowballs. Not Your Mother’s Smooth Moves was definitely a great find, considering I picked it up in addition to another, more expensive product that is now in second place. My only wish is that this product came in a larger size. A goon got a lot of hair to cover!
The price is pretty good, too. It’s affordable–I paid about $6 or $7 for this in NYC, so if you live elsewhere, you’ll probably find it cheaper. Try it–it’s a good one!
